Audio duplicating, slowing down or going high-pitched
Sound layers on top of itself and gets progressively worse the longer you play. Some players also hear a co-op partner’s voice go high-pitched. Several describe it as “two radios playing at once”.

What is actually going on
Reported by 15+ players in one thread. It gets worse the longer a session runs and the more high-frequency sounds fire. It is not your hardware — people on good setups hit it too.
What to try
- Open Windows sound settings and switch your output device to something else — for example from your headset to your speakers.
- Then switch straight back to the device you actually want.
- That is the community fix, posted in the thread after 14 people had confirmed the bug.
- If it returns during a long session, repeat the toggle. Turning the volume down hides it but does not stop it.
Where this comes from
Every step above is taken from player reports on the Steam discussion board — we did not test it ourselves, and the game has shipped six patches since launch, so behaviour can change. These are the threads:
- Steam thread “Audio Randomly Duplicating” — 15 posts, the device-toggle fix is post #14.
- Steam thread “Audio bugged for anyone after update?”
- Steam thread “my audio is broken all my sounds are inverted”
